The Environment Agency is running its annual flood awareness week (20 – 26 November) this winter to inform Erewash residents about the risks of flooding and help them take action to prepare.
We have all seen the detrimental impact that Storm Babet had on Erewash, with over 500 homes and businesses flooded. Taking steps to prepare and knowing what to do in a flood can significantly reduce risk to life, damage to property and the suffering in many other ways.

During the course of my conversations with residents and businesses affected by Storm Babet, it has also become apparent that there remains some confusion amongst residents as to which agencies are responsible for coordinating the response effort when a major flood event is declared. I have therefore created a helpful guide to ‘who is responsible for what’ as defined in the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, with the information collated from various sources, including The Environment Agency, The Local Government Association and The National Flood Forum.
