I was delighted to pop along and show my support to Macmillan’s coffee morning in Parliament.
At the event, I found out that there are around 5,000 people living with cancer in Erewash with approximately 700 people being diagnosed with cancer every year.
Macmillan provides thousands of people impacted by cancer with emotional, practical and financial support. I am extremely grateful to the Macmillan nurses and healthcare professionals who work tirelessly in Erewash to support people living with cancer and other life-limiting conditions. I would also like to pay tribute to Erewash based Treetops Hospice, which, over the last 40 years have provided high quality end of life care to many residents at the day centre and in their own home.
Unfortunately, too many people are facing dangerously long waits for cancer tests and treatments which can lead to the cancer spreading which can reduce a patients chance of survival.
I have and will continue to urge the Government to improve cancer waiting times and treatment in Erewash and across the country. If the Government takes action now, we can fix the long waiting times and support real change for people living with cancer.
