On Thursday evening (12th January 2024), the UK carried out air strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen. This operation was a limited, necessary, and proportionate act of self-defence alongside our allies.
On Monday afternoon, the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Rishi Sunak MP, updated the House of Commons on the situation in the Red Sea.
I welcome the Prime Minister’s statement and commend his decisive action. The threat posed by Houthi rebels to global trade demonstrates the importance of maintaining well-resourced armed forces on land, at sea and in the air.
Given the challenges in recruitment and retention of service personnel, I asked the Prime Minister if the Government would consider further support for cadet units, such as the ones in Ilkeston and Long Eaton. You can view my question here.
