Erewash Borough Council is currently consulting on proposals to renew and extend its Public Spaces Protection Order related to alcohol-fuelled anti-social behaviour in town centres and parks.
Maggie commented:
“Whist it is good news that the council want to renew and extend the PSPOs currently in place in Ilkeston and Long Eaton, there is absolutely no point in having these powers if they are not used.
“Time and time again, a number of residents blatantly break these orders and so often this can be seen happening on the council’s own doorstep outside the Town Hall in llkeston.
“Whilst I support the Borough Council’s proposals, I am also calling on them to actually use them.”
There is currently a PSPO across parts of Erewash which focuses on anti-social behaviour caused by alcohol consumption. This is due to expire in October 2023.
Erewash Borough Council is proposing to extend the PSPO for a further three years which will cover Ilkeston and Long Eaton town centres, with a proposal to extend the areas.
Residents can have their say on the plans by completing this survey. The consultation closes at 11.55pm on Monday 28 August 2023.
