This Saturday (2 December) is Small Business Saturday, a grassroots, non-commercial campaign which encourages consumers to shop locally and support small businesses in their communities.
Small businesses such as community pubs, butchers, gift and coffee shops, are the heart and soul of communities. They make up over 99 per cent of all UK business, yet many are facing uncertain futures as more and more people shop online.
On Small Business Saturday, I am urging Erewash residents to pop in to as many small businesses as possible. The festive season also provides all of us with a great opportunity to buy gifts at smaller retailers and support our local shops.
Since 2013, the Small Business Saturday campaign has engaged millions of people and consumer spending with small businesses on the Saturday alone has topped over £1 billion in recent years. So please, get out and support our smaller retailers in Erewash! I will be doing my shopping at as many Erewash businesses as I can.
