Maggie Throup, Member of Parliament for Erewash, joined local residents for a weekend of festivities at the Long Eaton Carnival (16 – 18 June).
The Long Eaton Carnival, which this year celebrated its 92nd anniversary, comprised a weekend of activities and events which brought the entire community together. There were a variety of activities and events happening over the weekend including the Carnival Parade, the traditional carnival with many stalls, a party in the park, a fun fair and a car boot sale. Although this event was free to the public, proceeds from the weekend went towards the Long Eaton Community Carnival Association and each stall holder was raising money for the organisation that they represent.
Maggie was once again invited to judge the floats participating in the Parade, which was held on Saturday 17th June. The theme for this year’s Parade was Mother Nature and Animals.
Maggie commented:
“The Long Eaton Carnival is one of my highlights of the Summer. The weather was great, and I was delighted to see so many local residents showing support for this year’s carnival.
“This event brings the entire community together and it was great to meet and talk to so many Long Eaton residents.
“As well as visiting the different stalls, I was delighted to once again judge the floats taking part in the Parade. It was extremely difficult to decide on a winner as there were so many unique and creative floats. Well done to all everyone who participated in the parade.
“Finally, I would like to thank the carnival committee, all the volunteers, the stall holders and everyone for attending this fantastic event.”
The Long Eaton Carnival is run by the Long Eaton Community Carnival Association. The primary objective of the association is to involve all sections of the community in engendering community spirit by organising an annual Carnival and associated events.
