I was delighted to show my support for Nuclear in Parliament Week by attending Rolls-Royce’s Nuclear Technology Demonstration.
I particularly enjoyed learning more about the Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactors (SMR) programme. In November 2021 the Government provided £210m of grant funding to Rolls-Royce SMR to support the development of its SMR design. It is hoped that Rolls-Royce SMR will provide clean, affordable nuclear energy which will help us meet out Net Zero 2050 target.
I also enjoyed chatting to apprentices from the Rolls-Royce Nuclear Skills Academy in Derby, which is a unique facility that has been developed to meet the skills demand with the submarines business.
With many Rolls-Royce employees living in Erewash, it was great to show my support for such a prominent and vital organisation in our area.
