Maggie was a great advocate for vaccinations even before being appointed as the Minister for Vaccines and Public Health in 2021. Her belief is that, after clean water, vaccines are the most impactful public health intervention available. Travelling to Ethiopia and Kenya to see vaccination programmes in low and middle income economies has given Maggie an even greater understanding of the impact of vaccinations. in 2024, Maggie was awarded an OBE for her work on the vaccination programme during the Omicron stage of the COVID-19 pandemic.
